A US Chess Federation (USCF) rated tournament for adults and students

IMPORTANT - ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE MEMBERS OF THE USCF!

Tournament details

Sections: Open (all ages), K-1 Championship, K-1 U400, K-3 Championship, K-3 U600, K-5 Championship, K-5 U600, K-8 Championship, K-8 U600, K-12 Championship, K-12 U800
You may play in sections with ages higher than yours, but not lower.
U### sections are limited to players with USCF ratings below that number, or players without USCF ratings.

Format: 4-SS (4 rounds / games; Swiss System - everyone plays 4 games).
G/45,d5 (45 minutes per side, 5 second delay per move).

Schedule:  Check in 9:15 am - 9:45 am. 1st round starts at 10 am.

Awards:

  • Open section (based on 20+ entries): 1st = $200, 2nd = $75, $3rd = $50, U1600 = $50
  • Scholastic sections: Individual 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophy for each section. Top team trophy for each championship section. Top girl trophy for each section. Cash prizes for championship sections:
    • K-12: Trophies plus 1st = $50, 2nd = $30, 3rd = $20
    • K-8: Trophies plus 1st = $35, 2nd = $25, 3rd = $15
    • K-5: Trophies plus 1st = $25, 2nd = $20, 3rd = $10
    • K-3: Trophies plus 1st = $15, 2nd = $10, 3rd = $5
    • K-1: Trophies only

Entry fee: Please pay at the door upon check-in.

  • Open section: $35
  • Scholastic sections:
    • $25 - Standard rate
    • $40 - Supporter rate; comparable to tournaments in Maryland and Virginia and enables you to contribute to DC State Chess Federation’s mission of ensuring chess access and opportunities to all.
    • $5 - Access rate; available for all for whom a higher entry fee is an obstacle.

About Robert C. Weaver

Robert Clifton Weaver (1907-1997) was an American economist, academic, and political administrator who served as the first United States secretary of housing and urban development (HUD) from 1966 to 1968, when the department was newly established by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Weaver was the first African American to be appointed to a US cabinet-level position. Weaver was born in Washington, DC and attended the M Street High School, now known as Dunbar High School.
