Tournament:  HCC December Desperado (USCF Scholastic, Grades K-12; 4SS;  G/25,d5)
Location:  Play More Chess Academy, 1227 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06517
Date:  Saturday, December 10, 2022      
Check-in time:  12:50pm
Start Time:  1:00pm, subsequent rounds ASAP
Description:

  • Format: 4SS, G/25, d5; Four Rounds of USCF rated chess in Swiss System format. Time control is G/25, d5.  Each player has 25 minutes to make their moves in a game; each turn there is a five second delay before clock resumes counting down.  This time control is dual rated and will affect both USCF Regular and USCF Quick ratings. Tournament expected to complete about 5:00pm.
  • Eligibility:  Scholastic tournament for kids (Grades K-12). USCF membership required to sign up. ($20 one year Scholastic membership available at uschess.org).  
  • Three Sections:  Open;  Under 1200 Section; and Under 600 Section  Player rating must be within 100 points to play up into the next higher section. If needed, a small section may be combined with another section so as to avoid having players facing each other twice.
  • Entry fees: $25-40.  Discounts for early entry and Hamden Chess Club members.  Early entry discounted fee deadline: Thursday, Midnight;  Regular Entry deadline: Saturday, 11:00am (day of tournament).
  • PRIZES:  Nine Trophies (Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each section and chess medals for all other players.  Note: USCFprescribed tie-break formula will be used if necessary to determine trophy recipients (i.e. if after four rounds top players in a section have earned the same total number of points, placement for prizes will be determined based on a prescribed USCF tie-break method).
  • Byes: One half-point bye may be taken for any round that you cannot attend. Must be requested at least one hour prior to start of tournament.
  • Equipment: Chess sets and clocks will be provided.
  • Additional Info: No spectators will be allowed while tournament games are being played.   Parents and others may wish to visit and support the adjacent bookstore/coffee shop and other local establishments. Any player cell phones must turned off and remain in a bag at player's table.  Electronic notation devices will not be allowed for this tournament.  Students should plan to notate the moves in their games. Students in lower grades should try their best to notate but will not be required to do so. Players may bring snacks, which can be eaten in the kitchen area between rounds.   Limited drink and snack options such as bottled water and granola bars are available in the kitchen for $1.  Players may have a water bottle or other drink during their game but no food is allowed in the playing area. Players should expect one or more of their games to finish early and should bring a book, rubiks cube or any quiet entertainment to occupy themselves until their next round game begins.
  • Refunds/Cancellation Policy:  If you cannot play in this event, you may withdraw by emailing: info@PlayMoreChess.com.   A request for a refund may be made no later than Thursday 11:59 PM  (Thursday Before Tournament). Refunds must be requested by email and are subject to a $15 cancellation fee to cover administrative and credit card processing charges.
