DCC Thursdays May 2024 (Accelerated Swiss Pairings Rounds 1 and 2 for U1600 Section)

Thursdays: 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23, 5/30

Swiss System tournament

One round is played every Thursday. Players may enter the tournament at any point during the month! Example: If a player missed the first three rounds, but wishes to play the final round, that is okay!

If circumstances evolve, the Covid-Policy is subject to reinstatement. Consult denverchess.com  for any last minute changes.

Time Control: G/70, d/10 (70 minutes per player with 10 second delay before each move)

2 Sections: "1600+ Premier" and "U1600 & Unrated".  Unrated players must play in the U1600 section. 

Pairings 

1600+ Premier: Normal Swiss System Pairings for all rounds.

U1600 and Unrated: Accelerated Swiss Pairings rounds one and two. 

New USCF members: New USCF members are unrated and will be paired in the U1600 section. This is to improve parity and keep games competitive. Score-keeping is required, It is highly encouraged to bring your own scoresheet and a writing utensil, as we provide these, but are limited on a first-come, first-serve basis. We also have a limited supply of boards and clocks. 

Round Time: Promptly at 7:05pm. 

Note: In case of inclement weather and/or extenuating circumstances, the TD reserves the right to delay the start time of the tournament on a week-by-week basis.

One block south of Leetsdale. Large office building. First floor. Can enter through front or back entrance. 

Fees 

DCC members (Applies to college students with a VALID college ID)

Adults (14 and OLDER): $27 per month OR $8 per round.

Children (UNDER 14): $21 per month OR $6 per round

NON-DCC Members

Adults (14 and OLDER): $37 per month OR $10 per round.

Children (UNDER 14): $29 per month OR $9 per round

Family Discount

For immediate family members, the 3rd family member plays for free (Important: Online registration does not support this exception. If all three wish to register online, three entry fees will be required. Upon arrival, please check-in with the TD to receive a refund for the 3rd family member.)

Prizes

Based on entries (DCC deducts a set amount to cover expenses and the DCC tour prize fund; the remainder goes to the monthly prize fund)

"1600+ Premier": 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes, U1900 prize, Upset prize

"U1600": 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes, U1300 prize, Upset prize, and highest unrated player. The unrated player must have played at least two rounds to qualify for the prize. 

Registration 

(Must have USCF# to register)

Online registration preferred, or at the door from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.  Please check the registration list on the TV screen upon arrival to the club. If your name is not on the list or if you are in the wrong section, please check-in with the tournament director. Potential players appearing after 6:59 PM will only be accommodated if it does not disrupt the pairing schedule.

Limited to 52 players per round due to venue capacity.  Priority given to tournament players over casual players, and first come first serve (check in at the registation desk).

USCF Rule Changes:  Rule 13D (late arrival for game) is changed from 1 hour to 30 minutes.  Any late arrival after 30 minutes will result in a forfeit.

Bye Policy: 1 half-point bye is available on request for any one round. Must commit to last round bye before the prior round.

Byes for missed rounds must be requested before the player is paired in a subsequent round.  Once paired, byes for missed rounds cannot be requested.
