Important Note About Venue

The DMV Open 3-day main event and The DMV Open Scholastic Tournament 1-day event are not taking place at the same hotel. The scholastic tournament will take place at the Hampton Inn and Suites located on 22700 Holiday Park Drive. The three-day DMV Open will take place at the Holiday Inn. The two venues are only 0.3 miles from each other (about a 5-minute walk or 2-minute drive).

Tournament Information

• Saturday, July 8th at 11:00 am

• Four rounds: first round at 11 am, subsequent rounds occur as soon as possible

• Four sections: K-12, K-8, K-5, and K-3

    • Note: The DMV Open (3 days long) is for both adults and children, whereas The DMV Open Scholastic Tournament (1-day event) is only open to scholastic players

      • It is possible to play both events with a round-two bye in the 3-day main event

• Trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers in each section

• Time control: Game in 30 minutes with a 5-second delay

• Entry fee: $35 by 7/3, $40 by 7/6, $45 by 7/7, $50 on 7/8 (on-site registration closes 30 minutes before round 1)

• Masks are optional

• Boards and pieces will be provided for all players, but we don’t have enough clocks for everyone (those who have clocks are welcome to bring them)

• This tournament is US Chess rated

• Hotel Reservations: To reserve a sleeping room at the hotel where the main-event DMV Open is taking place (Holiday Inn Washington Dulles) call 703-471-7411 and mention DMV Chess. The Holiday Inn is 0.3 miles (5-minute walk or 2-minute drive) from the Hampton Inn where the scholastic tournament will be held. The chess tournament discounted rate is $105 plus taxes and fees. The hotel may stop accepting sleeping rooms under the chess rate at any time due to limited availability.
