Players from the United States compete against Team South Africa in the first ever USA vs. South Africa Team Battle!

• The tournament will begin on Sunday July 26th at 2 pm Eastern Daylight Time (1 pm CDT, 12 pm/noon MDT, or 11 am PDT) and end at 4 pm Eastern Daylight Time. Players are encouraged to join the tournament a few minutes early.

This tournament is free!

• Lichess team battle pairings will be used. This format is similar to arena-style pairings, but players from the same country will be restricted from playing against each other.

• The scores of the highest performing 20 players from each side will determine which country wins!

• Before signing up for the tournament, please register for a lichess.org account (it's free!) if you do not have an existing account. If you have any issues try watching this video about how to register an account on lichess: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTr_tAh7JeQ

• Please provide your USCF ID number (if a member) and lichess username (this goes in the "Online Username" field) to be eligible for prizes.

• All current/former US residents may compete for team USA. This tournament is open to children and adults of all ages and ratings.

• This tournament is not USCF-rated, and a USCF membership is not required to participate. Games will only be lichess-rated.

• The time control is game in 3 minutes with a 2-second incremement. Players will be allowed to use Berserk mode, where they sacrifice half of their initial time and all of their increment to get double points.

• There will be a live commentary stream with analysts from both sides on the DMV Chess Twitch channel: https://www.twitch.tv/dmv_chess

• After you register we will send instructions manually.

• If you have questions about this tournament, please contact Josh Hiban at tournaments@dmvchess.com or 703-415-6600.
