2025 SuperStates Senior (50+) State Chess Championship

Saturday-Sunday, March 29-30th, 2025

After you register, check the Entry List on this website to confirm that your name is there. No one will be allowed to play if they are not on the Entry List.

NOTE: 

  1. SCCF Membership is mandatory! Register/Renew SCCF Membership here. (If you're unsure whether your SCCF membership will expire or needs renewal before SuperStates begins, please check here.)
  2. The tournament is USCF-rated, but not FIDE-rated.
  3. The March 2005 Supplement Rating will be used for pairing and section eligibility.
  4. Chess set will be provided. Please bring your chess clock.

Format: 6SS, G/80,d/10

Rounds: 

  • Day 1(Saturday):

    • 9:30am: Opening Ceremony

    • 10am: Round 1

    • 2pm: Round 2

    • 5pm: Round 3

  • Day 2(Sunday):

    • 9am: Round 4

    • 1pm: Round 5

    • 4pm: Round 6

    • 7:30 pm: Champion Awards Ceremony

NOTE: One 1/2 point bye is allowed in Championship sections, and never in the final round.

Entry Fee:

  • Early Bird: $100 (by Jan. 31st)
  • Regular: $120 (by Feb. 28th)
  • Late Entry: $150 (by March 21st)

Event Cancellation Policy

  • $5 Cancellation Fee until March 9th. Then, until 3/21, $10. No refunds at all if you cancel after March 21st. Only email will serve as a valid cancellation.

Awards & Honors

  • Individual Awards:

    • State Qualifier:

      • Champion: SoCal Representative for Irwin National Tournament
      • 2nd Finisher: SoCal Alternative for Irwin National Tournament
    • Top 5 Trophies (Standard Tie breaks will be applied)

    • 65+ Champion (Standard Tie breaks will be applied) *

    • Travel Stipend for SoCal Representives to participate in National Invitations

* If the overall champion is 65 years or older, the second-highest finisher aged 65+ will be awarded the 65+ Champion title.

FAQ

Q: I am from Northern California or another state. Can I still participate in the SuperStates Championship?

A: Yes, you are welcome to join us and compete for trophies! However, you must have an SCCF membership to participate in the Championship. Please note that you will not be eligible to represent Southern California in the National Invitationals.

Q: I recently moved to Southern California. If I win, will I be eligible to represent SoCal?

A: Yes, as long as you have updated your billing address to your Southern California residence and notified US Chess to update your state affiliation.
