Tournament Information

SDCC MARCH SCHOLASTIC TOURNAMENT
(For grades K through K12, all levels are welcome)
MARCH 10th, 2024 (SUNDAY). 12 - 4:30 pm

 

Location: San Diego Chess Club (2225 6th Avenue, San Diego)

Schedule: 

  • First round starts at 12:00 pm, please arrive 15 minutes earlier by 11:45.

  • Tournament is expected to be done by 4:30 pm, lower rated sections might finish earlier.

  • Awards ceremony right after all games are done.

Sections: 

  • OPEN (recommeded for ratings over 800 USCF, advanced scholastic players)

  • U800 (recommended for experienced scholastic players)

  • U500  (recommended for beginner scholastic players)

  • We reserve the right to change sections and move participants if sections are uneven

Format:  4  rounds, USCF rated as Regular / Quick

Byes: 

  • 1 bye is allowed (you can skip one round and get a half point).

  • If you are skipping the first round, please put it in the registration notes or email us

Time Control:

  • G30d5

Entry fee:

  • $25 + processing fee
  • For families registering more than 2 kids, 3rd/4th kids get in for free. Please, choose the appropriate "Entry Type" for your 3rd/4th kid at the checkout

  • 6 players who won free entry  for their performance in 2024 January Scholastic Games tournament,  please, choose an appropriate [Entry Type] at the checkout:

    • Jason Van Buren (4th place in the Open)

    • Isaac Wong (4th place in U700)

    • Shogo Hodama (4th place in U400)

    • Elian Gonzalez - Kushner (5th place in U400)

  • 4 players who have not used their free entry  for their performance in 2023 Bruce Baker Memorial tournament,  please, choose an appropriate [Entry Type] at the checkout:

    • Yuvraj Surana (3rd place in U700)

    • Eric Oen (4th place in U700)

Prizes:  Awards to top players in the section

Live Updates: all info (players, pairings, standings, tiebreaks, byes) will be available via CaissaChess live: https://caissachess.net/live/4010.
You can view updates online or sign up for emails/text alerts.

Pairings: There will be no check-in process. Tentative Pairings will be posted before the tournament and will update with new registrations and cancellations (via CaissaChess live). If the opponent doesn't show up, we will pair with any available player from the same section or give 1 full point.

Registration: Registration will be open until all available spots are filled or 9 AM day of the tournament

Equipment: If you own a tournament chess set and a clock, please, bring it.

Regulations: 

  • The pairings will be posted before the event, all no-shows will get forfeits and will be withdrawn from the tournament.

Terms and Conditions
  • If the participant is YOUNGER than 12 years old, parent/guardian/designated adult should be present on San Diego Chess Club’s premises during the tournament (No drop-offs).
  • I agree to hold harmless the San Diego Chess Club, Scholastic Coordinator  (Irina Nizmutdinova) and all tournament staff from  any events that cause harm/damage to your child and/or personal belongings. The tournament and tournament staff are not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
  • There is a “Zero Tolerance Policy” for any inappropriate behavior such as criticizing, bullying, not listening to tournament instructions, or any attempt of harm of anyone else. Consequence: Immediate removal from the tournament.
  • I agree to let the club know if I am not coming to the tournament or if I need to skip the first round.
