4 Round Challenge System Tournament

 

The Augusta Chess Association Combat League presented in association with the Evans Chess Club is a year long running ladder.

 

The Winner of any match moves up the ladder to the position above their opponenet (no movement if their opponenet was lower seeded)

The Loser of a match moves down one place on the ladder

Draws results in the lower ladder rung climbing above the higher position on the ladder, but are discourgaed on principle.

 

If greater than 8 players, players will be divided into pools (or sub-ladders)

Ladder positions 1 and 2 will not be in the same pool

Challenges are as follows: a player may either "Challenge" players for their ladder position, or choose a board and color thereby opening himself up to challenge.  It should be noted that the only way to move up the ladder will be to Challenge for the higher position.

 

First Round start at 10:00.  Top position (3) assume the top boards and pick their color.  Challenge system begins, starting at the lowest position going up. 

Second Round start at 11:15.  Top 1 position assumes top board and picks their color.  Challenge system continues starting with the lowest ladder position of those with the most wins.  Once those with the most wins have made their selection, the lowest ladders position of those with the next highest win total makes their choice, and so on.

Third Round start at 1:30.  Top 1 position assumes top board and picks their color.  Challenge system continues starting with the lowest ladder position of those with the most wins.  Once those with the most wins have made their selection, the lowest ladders position of those with the next highest win total makes their choice, and so on.

Fourth and final Round start at 2:45.  Leaders of each pool will play for the Combat Leaguye Title and Trophy.  Similar ladder position of the different pools will play.  Tie-breakers inn each pool will go to the higher ladder positions.

 

The highest seeded player on the ladder at the end of each tournament is awarded the Combat League Trophy (and the ability to modify or add to the Trophy as they see fit) 

Return the trophy at or prior to the next iteration of the Combat League.
