Tournament: February Scholastic Quads (USCF-rated; Grades K-12)
Location:  Play More Chess Academy, 1227 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06517
Date:  Saturday, February 19, 2022   (Snow Date: Sunday, Feb 20)
Check-in time:  9:15am
Start Time:  9:30am   (tournament is expected to go until approximately 12:30pm)
Description:

  • 3 round Round-Robin quads tournament format. A quad is a four-person round-robin section in which all participants play each other once (three rounds).
  • Scholastic tournament for kids (K-12).  Quads will be organized by USCF ratings. Players will compete against others who have similar ratings.
  • USCF Regular and Quick rated.  Time Control: G25, d5  (Each player has 25 minutes to make their moves in a game; each turn there is a 5 second delay before clock resumes counting down).
  • Entry fees:  $25-$40  Discounts for early entry and Hamden Chess Club members
  • PRIZES:  Trophy for winner of each Quad; chess medals for all other players in each quad.   Depending on the exact number of registrations, the bottom section may have five, six or seven players, in which case that section will be paired as a Swiss tournament and will have a 2nd place prize added. If necessary, USCF approved tie-break methods used to determine trophy recipients (i.e. if two or more players within a section have the same number of points at the end of the tournament).
  • Chess sets and clocks will be provided.
  • Town of Hamden requires masks to be worn at indoor gatherings.
  • No spectators will be allowed while tournament games are being played.   Parents and others may wish to visit and support bookstore/coffee shop next door and area restaurants.  Standings will be posted between rounds and available at: https://caissachess.net/live/1361.
  • Any cell phones must be turned off..  Electronic notation devices will not be allowed for this tournament.  Students should plan to notate the moves in their games. Students in lower grades should try their best to notate but will not be required to do so.
  • Byes:  No byes available since this a three-round quad tournament. Players should plan to play all three rounds.

Refunds:  Refunds and transfers must be requested at least 24 hours before the event. The amount of the entry fee, less payment processing/card transaction fees that we pay for the entry, will be refunded.  Alternatively, you may request entry fee to be transferred to following month's tournament without penalty.
