Tournament Information

  • This tournament will take place on Sunday, October 20th at 10 am.

  • Five rounds (one round longer than last year!)

  • First round at 10 am, subsequent rounds occur as soon as possible

    • Tournament should end at approximately 4 pm (Need to leave early? Just let the TD know! You can also ask for a bye when registering in the "comments/bye requests" field.)

  • Four sections: K-12, K-8, K-5, and K-3

  • Time control: Game in 25 minutes with a 5-second delay (US Chess regular and quick rated)

  • Entry fee: $44 by 10/13, $49 by 10/19, $60 by 10/20 (on-site registration closes 30 minutes before round 1)

  • Boards and pieces will be provided for all players, but we don’t have enough clocks for everyone (those who have clocks are welcome to bring them)

NEW PRIZE ADDED 10/19: The top player rated under 800 (no unrateds) in each section will win a free entry into our Friday (400-1000) online course for the month of November.

Note: For trophies, ties will be broken using standard US Chess tiebreaks. In the event of a tie, the free course prizes will be determined by tiebreaks. If multiple players get a perfect score, each of them will receive a free course entry.

Note: The free course prizes may be restricted based on which courses are at or near max capacity (i.e. the free course prize can only be used on courses that have enough room to accept additional students). The Under 800 course prizes are specifically only for the Friday course in the month of November.

 

Venue Information/Logistics

  • PARKING: The Executive Conference and Training Center has plenty of free parking.
  • Free water will be provided for attendees.
  • There is no scheduled lunch break, but there is almost always time for players to have food between games. There aren't any scheduled round times--rounds will occur as soon as possible.
  • We will have a chess vendor at the tournament selling books and chess merchandise..
  • There will be a cafeteria area immediately outside the playing hall with plenty of space for parents to hang out/use their laptops.
  • See below for information about sleeping rooms if traveling from out of town.

 

Hotel Accommodations:

The Best Western Dulles Airport Inn on 45440 Holiday Drive offers the cheapest rate and is right next to the playing venue. This hotel is only about a twenty-second walk from the tournament. The Best Western also offers free breakfast.
