Flathead Valley Chess Club - Friday Night Tournament

DATE & TIME:  Friday, May 2, 2024; 5:30 to 9:00 PM  (Round 1 by 5:40 PM, subsequent rounds ASAP.  End time by 9:00 PM).

LOCATION:  Hockaday Museum of Art, 302 2nd Ave E, Kalispell, MT 59901· ·(Downstairs Classroom)

TIME CONTROL:  G/25, d5 (Dual USCF Rated – Regular & Quick)

EVENT FORMAT: 3 rounds. Accelerated Swiss (“1 vs. 2”) pairing.

This pairing system is exactly the same as the Swiss pairing system except that the players in the upper half do not play the players in the lower half in the first or any other round. Instead, in round 1 after the players have been ranked by their USCF rating, each odd ranked player is paired with the even ranked player following them on the ordered ranking list; i.e.; 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, 5 vs. 6, etc.

We will use a family pairing exclusion, subject to a minimum number of players, if players do not want to play others in their own family.

ELIGIBILITY:   A current USCF membership is required to register for this tournament (go to https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess to join or renew).

This tournament is open to all players, including Unrated. 

Players must bring their own clocks. Tournament boards will be provided.

BYES:  Must be requested at check-in. Zero-point byes only.

ENTRY FEE:  No entry fee - $5 donation is recommended

PRIZES:  1^st Place - $20; 2^nd Place - $10; 3rd Place - $5

PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION:  Free parking is available on the street and the lot immediately next to the museum.
