This is the fourth monthly tournament held by Emerald Hills Chess and the Tri-Valley Chess League.
The Challenger is aimed at novice scholastic tournament players, unrated and up to 300 rating.
It is an affordable way for K-12 players to enter their first US Chess Federation tournament, gain an official (Quick) rating, and compete for a trophy.
(Experienced tournament players over 300 rating should compete in the concurrent Premier and Championship. New for 2024 - there will be a free casual tournament open to parents and other adults! Sign up on site.)
Date: Saturday Jan. 20, 2024
Location: Wells Middle School, 6800 Penn Dr, Dublin, CA 94568 (see map)
Who: Unrated and novice tournament players under 300 rating divided into two sections: K-5 and Grades 6-12 (300+ rated players should register for the Premier or Championship)
Time: 9 AM-12 PM (check-in 8:15-8:45 AM)
Format: 5 rounds of quick-rated games using time control for each player of Game in 12 minutes with 3 second delay.
