Important Note: The venue for this tournament has changed. Due to an unexpected issue with the original venue, we are now holding this tournament at the College Park Crowne Plaza hotel on 6400 Ivy Lane, Greenbelt, MD 20770.

 

This tournament is both USCF-regular-rated and USCF-quick-rated (dual-rated). The open section is also FIDE-rapid-rated.

Tournament Information:

  • NEW VENUE: College Park Crowne Plaza on 6400 Ivy Lane, Greenbelt, MD 20770
  • Parking: There is free parking at the hotel.
  • 4 round Swiss tournament.
  • USCF regular and quick rated. (Open section is also FIDE-rapid-rated). Time control: Game in 30 minutes with a 5-second delay.
  • Sunday, September 3rd, 11am to approximately 4:30pm.
  • Entry fee: $30 on or before Tuesday 8/29, $35 on or before Saturday 9/2, $40 on Sunday 9/3 (on-site registration is allowed, registration for round one closes at 9:40 am on Sunday). Free entry UMD students or to players over 2200. Please email to register under the free student or free national master options (entry deducted from prizes).
  • Two Sections: Open (also FIDE-rapid-rated) and Under 1500. Minimum rating of 1300 required to play in open section.
  • Note: In order to play in the open section, players must have a USCF rating of at least 1300. Players rated between 1300 and 1499 can play in either section. Players under 1300 should play in the Under 1500 section. A player can still join the open section if their unpublished (live) rating is over 1300, even if their monthly rating isn't 1300 yet. The tournament director may decide to have a lower rated player join the open section to maintain an even number of players in the section.
  • PRIZES: $100 for 1st in Open; $50 for 1st in U1500.
  • We will have enough chess sets for all players, but clocks will not be provided for everyone. If you have a clock, please bring one.
  • This tournament is open to everyone (adults and children of any skill level).
  • Masks are optional.
