Location: In the District of Columbia bordering the line of Friendship Heights & Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Closest Metro Train Station: Friendship Heights (Red Line) Embassy Suites Hotel is directly across the street from the Friendship Heights Metro Station.
Entry Fee: $65 No refunds on entries unless the event is canceled!
Section: Middle School (6th –9th)
1st Place $300 2nd Place $150
3rd Place $75 Top Elementary Student $150
Large trophies and cash prizes awarded to the top three players and the top Elementary School Student.
Students will play 4SS USCF rated games. USCF Membership is required. No elimination! Each game is 30 minutes SS with no delay. Possible 5-minute blitz playoff if necessary to determine who wins the tie breaker.
Game times are 9:30am, 11:30am, 2:30pm and 4:30pm with trophy ceremony following the final match.
Please arrive by 9:00am for check-in, rounds start exactly at 9:30am. Players should bring their own sets and clocks. Chess equipment is not provided! No half point byes are provided. All prizes guaranteed! Regardless of turnout! Entries “MUST” be received by Wednesday January 18, 2023 no entries are accepted after this date. No registration accepted or will take place the day of the event. Special prizes awarded to students who solve chess problems / puzzles. Students in grades below 6th (Elementary School) are welcomed to play. A top Elementary student prize is offered to the top performing Elementary school student. Elementary school students are also eligible to win (double prizes) any Middle School prize and the top Elementary school prize based on their performance. Parents are not allowed in the playing area but are welcome to say in the hotel lobby area. Space is limited so we ask that only one parent or guardian attend per participant.
All entry funds generated from this event will support future scholastic chess tournaments provided by Icon Chess Foundation and help expand Icon Chess Foundation programs within public schools, charter schools, disadvantaged communities and after school programs based in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.
Entries forms must be received by Wednesday January 18, 2023 no entries are accepted after that date. Space is limited to first 50 students who register. Only one guest / parent may accompany each player to the tournament, the space is not available for large groups to accompany a single player. At this time limited space is available for parents to wait in the lobby area or in the Pavillion while their child plays in the tournamaent. No registration will take place the day of the event.
